ABERDEENSHIRE’S DEVELOPMENT PLAN NEARS COMPLETION

A BUILDING blueprint for the Garioch area and beyond is nearing completion.

Council officers have made tweaks to the Aberdeenshire Local Development 2016 in response to comments on the draft.

Requests had been made to allocate additional employment land in Westhill as well as Inverurie and Edzell Woods.

However, officers said land supply in excess of the overarching Strategic Development Plan targets had been identified between Blackdog and Peterhead, and Huntly tand Laurencekirk.

In a report on feedback and changes, they added: “Allowing the use of any land for significant employment uses could lead to sporadic development uncontrolled by planning policy, contrary to a plan-led system.

“Policy P3 gives landowners the opportunity to develop land they own for employment uses as long as it accords with the stated criteria.”

The proposed plan zones land for development from 2016-2021.

Aberdeenshire Council’s area committees are being asked for comments ahead of the finalised plan going to the infrastructure services committee.

The plan will go to Scottish Government for scrutiny and ratification before being returned to Aberdeenshire Council for formal adoption.
