HIKING AT SEVENTY

MORE THAN THIRTY people have already signed up for a sponsored walk in aid of charity, Christian Aid, in celebration of the the charity’s 70th Anniversary and to raise money for the many projects going on worldwide. The expedition will depart on 13th June and climb great heights in order to raise money.

The WECC interviewed Malcolm Christie, one of the event organisers. He informed us of a Christian Aid project which he was enthusiastic about raising money for.
“I know that there’s a project in Ethopia; one very much worth supporting.”

Christian Aid have created a list of seventy Munros to climb in honour of their 70th Anniversary, ranging from the mountains in the Cairngorms to those on the West Coast.

Skene Parish Church have chosen to hike up Lochnagar as their Munro (19 km) as well as a shorter, ground level walk around Loch Muick (12.5 km).

Minibuses will be scheduled to take people from Westhill to the appropriate car park but individuals are more than welcome to take their own transport.

The money raised by this walk will be added to the money raised by door-to-door collection and funds raised by the Aberdeen Orpheus Choir performance on the 22nd May. It is expected that around ten thousand pounds will be raised and go towards Christian Aid’s excellent projects across the globe.

If you would like to donate, check out the walk’s Just Giving page or text SKCA70 and the amount you want to donate to 70070 (e.g “SKCA70 £10).

Moreover, if you would like to go on the walk, contact Stella Campbell on 01224 745955 or Malcolm Christie on 01224 740100 for more information.
